Despite Graydon Sealy losing to the girls from Husbands, St James, there were good performances from Shonica Wharton who rallied her team and utilized her height and size to her advantage and scored a game-high 22 points. Latifah Wood chipped in with 12 points.
The game was a keenly contested one and it was Graydon Sealy who thad the lead 11-8 at the close of the first quarter. In the second quarter Queen’s College showed greater enterprise on both ends of the court to reverse the situation and take control at the half-time whistle with the scoreline reading 22-77 in their favour.
With five points down and having home court advantage one would have expected Graydon Sealy to make a strong comeback in the penultimate quarter and they did exactly that ending the period in ascendancy at 33-26. Queen’s College failed to mark Wharton who oftentimes was left unmarked and Graydon Sealy made Queen’s College pay.
Queen’s College played strongly on the boards, snatching quite a number of offensive rebounds, and also forcing a few turn overs but they failed to capitalize on these efforts. It was also a stretch of play where Queen’s College’s star performer Daniel was kept quiet by some stifling defence from Graydon Sealy.
However keeping Daniel under control was a welcomed distraction for Queen’s College as the ball was then frequently fed to Marshall and Callender who managed to propel Queen’s College over the line and a hard-fought victory in the end.
